Founded in 1965 by folk pioneer Jack Hamilton, Broadstairs Folk Week has grown from a small seaside gathering into one of the United Kingdom’s most celebrated folk festivals. Created during the English folk revival, the festival was established to bring traditional music, song and dance to the south-east of England and quickly became a focal point for artists, dancers and audiences from across the world. Today, the week-long event transforms the coastal town of Broadstairs into a vibrant cultural hub, featuring hundreds of concerts, workshops, dances, parades and community events across numerous venues. Renowned for its welcoming atmosphere and strong spirit of participation, the festival blends traditional and contemporary folk influences while remaining rooted in community engagement. Supported by a large volunteer workforce, Broadstairs Folk Week continues to celebrate creativity, cultural exchange and the enduring power of live music and performance.
